Traditionally oils were used for hardwoods as softwoods (pine) were considered to require the mechanical strength of varnish. However, provided the correct maintenance is carried out, modern oil system can be used successfully on softwood floorboards.

Oiled floors are becoming increasingly popular in the UK. Oil gives a natural look to the floor, it is easy to apply, and the floor can be spot repaired if it gets scratched. In fact the only real issue concerning oiled floors is that if insufficient oil is used, it will not protect the floor and give long-term service.

Oil also requires regular maintenance, and the floor should be finished with a fine-finishing sander before the oil is applied to ensure no “dirt pockets” occur in the floor in the long-term.

We sell all the supporting maintenance products to ensure your oiled floor continues to look as good or better than when first finished.

Two oil systems are available:

System A

System A is for heavy traffic areas eg. restaurants and all floors subject to heavy usage. This is a two day system: ‘Millic Natur’ is applied as a prime oil coat which comes as a clear finish or in a range of colours. 1 litre covers approximately 20 sq metres. Once applied it is left to harden for 24 hours and then 'Centric 2' is applied, which is a protective hardening oil coverage for 'Centic' approximately 1 litre for 40 sq metres.

System B

'Centic Natur' is a popular fast-drying system that can be completed in a day. It gives the floor a natural appearance and comes only in clear. It is suitable for all domestic and light commercial traffic areas. To spot clean or refresh the floor, 'Nano Cleaner Pro Oil' should be used, and then followed by 'Refresher Pro Oil'. If a more comprehensive maintenance system is required 'Centic 2' can be applied to both. System A and B via a buffing machine.
