Because of
advances in manufacturing techniques,
and when the floor has been
laid onto a good, level underlayment,
it is usually possible to use
just the fine-finishing machine
and an edger. The edger is an
insurance against ‘overwood’,
which is the variation in height
between any 2 boards, being
more than about 1mm or so. This
overwood can be rapidly removed
by the edger.
The fine finishing machine
can cope with up to about 1mm
of overwood, but anything above
1mm needs the more aggressive
edger to run along the juncture
between the 2 boards before
you clean up the floor with
a fine finishing machine.
